Shout! b/w The Faker - 1985

Single number 5, Shout!, the Lulu smash from the '60's, and on the other side the newer version of The Faker.  To be honest, not one of the Gents' best A-sides but Shout! was issued in early 1985 as a precursor to the first album How it all Began.  This was the record which famously reached the dizzy (!) heights of number 95 in the national chart without any backup or major label clout at all, and that made certain people sit up and take notice like at no other time since the heady days of Battle of the Bands et al, when the Gents really were the next big thing.  Also, continuing a tradition of suspiciousness started with Revenge and Eurythmics, just a few short months after Shout! had it's moment of glory, someone called Lulu decided to re-release it and surprise surprise had a great big major hit with it.

By the way, there were 25 prepressings of Shout! made and when they arrived it was noticed that the copyright mention on the label for the record company said not "Lambs to the Slaughter 1985" but "Lambs to the Slaughterhouse 1985".  They were quickly divided up between us and one of those copies has since that day lived with your author!
