Glyn Davies
I'm not actually dead sure about this, but I think Glyn is the oldest of the Gents, but
how old I'm not actually sure either. He is one of the two of the band who date right from the very beginning, along
with Martin Burton and Mick Robinson, who were in the first band mentioned in the line that traces the Gents, Moonshadow and
this was in around 1978. Then they formed Slak Aliss who morphed into the Gents.
Glyn was working for Pegler's in Doncaster, a firm who make plumbing fittings etc and
he never lets anyone forget this when the subject comes up, but he was made redundant from Pegler’s and went straight
into the band, buying with his redundancy money, a coffin flight case which believe it or not remains in use with the Men's
Club today! I believe Glyn originates from Conisbrough, but he has lived in the Balby area of Doncaster for many years.
He comes from a large family of brothers.
Glyn of course, as you will know if you saw the Gents, had a very energetic drumming style,
manifesting itself in the form of things like the Gents' World Famous Drum Solo etc, where he went out into the crowd to play,
setting drums on fire etc and at one point we had this thing where he would play sat on my shoulders!
Glyn's other ability is of course singing, and he provided many front-line backing vocals
on Gents' songs and he took this one step further when the Men's Club started and Glyn has been the main singer all that time.
Where the name Dickie Bow comes from I have no idea.
